First of all — I love, love, LOVE “Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid”.
The script is brilliant. It’s literature — and reading William Goldman’s screenplay/book “Adventures In The Screen Trade” was my own ‘Idiot’s Guide’ to how to crack the Nut that is screenwriting. And Goldman — in ‘Butch Cassidy’ breaks every single rule there is. And then invents a bunch of new ones.
Aside from the score (Burt Bacharach won the OSCAR for ‘Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head’ and even that feels horribly out of place in the movie), everything about that movie is nearly perfect. And I’ll kill and eat any person who says otherwise…
Among the best scenes is this one — where Butch solves the problem of how not to get killed in a coup attempt by the rest of the Hole-In-The-Wall Gang.
And I think it could be very instructive to the Democrats as they go forward against the rules-free, lawless-as-they-wanna-be republicans.
THERE ARE NO RULES IN KNIFE FIGHTS, Democrats — ACT ACCORDINGLY.
Or better yet — let’s kick the whole, stinking, corrupt, TREASONOUS republican party right where Butch nails em.
